Arsenal To Make Unexpected Transfer

Arsene Wenger has agreed to take 29 year old Ahmed Fathi for a trial. According to Metro, the defender who played in the US and the UK over the last few years, is now back with his team that he helped win the African Champions League. The Egyptians have agreed to letting Fathi go for the second time around. This is not his first trial with the Gunners. Wenger had the chance to see the right back on another trial session back in 2004 when no contract was offered to the Egyptian international. The 29 year old is one of Egypt’s most iconic players managing to make 101 appearances for his country.

It is an unexpected move from Wenger who only had the chance of seeing Fathi during 9 games in which he played for Hull. He looks like a decent solution for the substitutes bench though which is very thin after Arsenal decided to part ways with 11 different players.

It is too early to say if Arsenal will offer Fathi a loan deal because as previously mentioned this is not the first time he has tried out for the Gunners. The right-back could represent a last resort in case Debuchy and Aurier fail to make it to North London where they are expected to replace Sagna.
