Arsenal To Make Their First Official Transfer In Debuchy

Newcastle’s 28 year old Mathieu Debuchy confirmed his transfer to Arsenal after constantly being linked to the North Londoners. With the World Cup coming to an end for France after losing to Germany, Debuchy who made 4 appearances for his national team, is expected to sign a deal with the Gunners who paid £7.9million for the right back. The Frenchman is Arsenal’s first summer transfer. He moved to the Premier League back in 2013 after spending 10 years playing for Lille.

The Frenchman is expected to become Wenger’s first choice for a spot in Arsenal’s starting line-up. He seems well-adapted to Premier League football after making 43 appearances for Newcastle in just over a year. Debuchy was the one who publicly confirmed that he will play for the Gunners next season. Even though the clubs did not make it official, the 28 year old told a TF1 reporter that he is no longer Newcastle’s player and that Emirates Stadium is his next destination.

Debuchy did not provide the press with further information. His statements came right after the game France lost against Germany which made it hard for the player to concentrate on the questions he was being asked. Hopefully the deal will be made official sometime during the week as Arsenal are only weeks away from beginning a new Premier League season. According to Metro, Debuchy will be having a medical this week but the fee has been agreed and the deal being completed is merely a formality according to the French publication L’Equipe.
