Arsenal To Focus On Neven Subotic

Arsenal To Focus On Neven Subotic

It turns out that Mats Hummels is either not for sale or too expensive. Regardless of the reason, he will not be joining Arsenal anytime soon. Even though the Gunners were rumored to plan on making the German international one of the most expensive defenders in the world, proposed negotiations have been dropped. It is somewhat understandable considering the £40m price tag set by Dortmund. According to Metro, the North Londoners will turn to Serbian defender Neven Subotic who is considering leaving Germany. Costing less than half of what the Germans requested for Hummels, the 26 year old still looks like a great fit for Arsenal’s defense.

With his contract set to expire in 2016, Dortmund will probably let him go for the right price. He has already spent 6 years at his current club and could be looking for a new challenge. He dropped in form which is not unexpected given the fact that the entire team has lost composure this campaign. Apparently he might come to help push Mertesacker who has not been having the best of seasons. The problem with Subotic is that he has had a lot of health problems over the past three years. Despite looking strong, he has a bad knee and some calf problems which might be an issue given the large number of intense matches played by Premier League teams. Arsenal will probably think twice even if Subotic is just the right age, has all the experience in the world and has also proven to be one of the best in the German League.
