Bad news for Arsenal is that will be obligated to fight Premier League giants for one of their main targets if they do indeed want to sign him. Virgil van Dijk, who has been on Wenger’s radar for a while now, has made it on Manchester United’s wanted-list as well. According to the Daily Star, the Dutch defender is wanted at both the Emirates and Old Trafford. United seem to be interested in the same players as Wenger is which is not great news for the Gunners. The North Londoners, even though they announced their biggest winter transfer budget in years, still have a lot of ground to to make up until reaching the same level as Manchester at least on the transfer budget front. The fact that Van Gaal is manager there is not helping either. He could influence Celtic’s defender to pick United over Arsenal even though his chances of being a part of the starting eleven will drop considerably with United.

Despite Celtic making it more than clear that Van Dijk will continue in Scotland for the rest of this season, rumors have it that he is on his way to the Premier League. The 23 year old who is currently one of the most promising center backs in the business, is under contract until 2017. He is keen on taking the next step of his career by moving to England. Hopefully he will be convinced by Wenger that coming to the Emirates is a better idea than joining Manchester where players have yet to settle into the team despite being signed and definite members of the starting line-up.
