Arsenal Target’s Release Clause Set To Drop To £51.8m And He Could Be Sold For Even Less

RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano will see his release clause drop to €60m (£51.8m) next summer, which could lead to the centre-back leaving the Bundesliga club, according to Kicker.

The German magazine reports that the 20-year-old is unlikely to sign a contract extension which would increase the buyout fee, and it may force Leipzig into cashing in on the defender.

Arsenal reportedly made a bid for Upamecano in the summer but were put off by the centre-half’s valuation. His drop in price may see the Gunners re-enter the race for the player.

Kicker also report that Leipzig may even accept a fee below the new release clause in order to make a healthy profit on the player. His current deal expires in 2021, and he will have just 12 months remaining next summer.

Upamecano joined from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2017 for just £9m, and he has excelled in the Bundesliga over the past two and a half years.
