Arsenal targeting David Luiz after seeing 20m bid rejected by Chelsea

Arsenal have reportedly seen a £20million bid for David Luiz rejected by Chelsea.

The defender had a torrid season at Stamford Bridge under Antonio Conte, having been left out of the starting XI on numerous occasions.

The Brazilian was left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad this summer due to his lack of playing time, something that will have certainly made the defender consider his future at Chelsea if he wasn’t already doing so.

With Arsenal’s mission to bolster their defence this summer a main priority for new manager Unai Emery, bringing in David Luiz would make perfect sense especially considering how experienced he is in the Premier League.

French news-site Le10Sport reported that the Gunners had an opening bid rejected for the 31-year-old, but they are said to be looking at making a further bid in the near future.

It remains unclear what exactly will happen with Antonio Conte at Chelsea, but if the Italian does stay at Stamford Bridge then it is more than likely that Luiz would be on his way out.

Luiz would likely not be sold until any new manager that is brought in has approved the transfer.
