Arsenal Target Speaks Out As He Lays Out Stance On Potential £32m Transfer

Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst has confirmed that he has sat down with the Bundesliga club to talk about a potential transfer.

Reports in Germany have claimed that Arsenal are one of the clubs who are interested in the Dutchman, with the player reportedly available for €35m (£32m).

Weghorst says he does have an agreement with Wolfsburg about potentially leaving the German side if a bid is lodged, although he admits the global health crisis may mean a move is not possible:

“Nobody has to be afraid. It’s good for a club to get a lot of money again after investing in a player. I have ambitions and I want to achieve the highest [possible level]. In the past two years, I have been able to show that I can deliver at the level and that there is more for me.”

“We discussed that we should sit down if something exciting came up for me. But because of Corona, we have a strange market. And I get a lot of recognition in Wolfsburg, I play an important role in sport and in human terms. I feel good, my family too.”

“It is also important to me whether VfL [Wolfsburg] will do everything possible to win titles in the future. But I have confidence in the leadership.”

The Gunners’ reported interest in Weghorst is a strange one. The forward may have scored 20 goals in all competitions this season, but at 6ft 5, he isn’t the most mobile, and would not be a great fit for Mikel Arteta’s style of play.

If Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang does leave the Emirates this summer, you would expect Arsenal to go after a similar type of player to replace him, rather than signing a target man.
