Arsenal Target Saliba’s Teammate As Arteta Eyes Exciting New Centre Back Partnership

Arsenal are interested in Saint-Etienne centre-back Wesley Fofana, according to But! Football Club. The French publication reports that the Gunners and Everton are both keeping an eye on the 19-year-old.

The defender has formed a young centre-half partnership with William Saliba, who has now joined up with the Gunners ahead of next season, and it seems head coach Mikel Arteta wants to reunite the pair at the Emirates.

However, it must be pointed out that the Fofana-Saliba centre-back combination was only used in eight league games this campaign, with Saint-Etienne conceding 14 goals and winning only two of those matches.

Even so, both teenagers are regarded among the most promising young defenders in Europe and if Arsenal were to bring Fofana to the club, it would be a massive coup.

The Frenchman is, though, said to be keen to stay at Saint-Etienne and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will make a formal bid for the centre-back.

Fofana is one of a host of names that Arsenal have been linked with in recent weeks with the London club seemingly casting their net far and wide for potential signings.
