Arsenal Target Open To Move

Julian Draxler has admitted that his German club Schalke could cash in on a deal with a fee in the region of £30 million, which would leave him with no option but to leave, increasing speculation about a potential move to Arsenal on deadline day.

Arsene Wenger will be a happy manager after he saw his side battle it out to win 1-0 in the North London derby against arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Frenchman predicted the high spending strategy adopted by Spurs as a move that would spoil the balance of the side, and as both sides faced each other yesterday, Wenger won the hearts of many fans who were unhappy at the lack of spending over the past few months of the summer window. With club chief executive Ivan Gazidis publicly letting fans know about the surplus funds that would be available for the manager, the club will be busy to bring in at least one big signing on deadline day.

Draxler began his journey in the game with Schalke in 2001 as a bright young talent in their youth academy. The attacking midfielder nearly spent a decade at the academy in Germany, and improved his instincts in front of goal, as he thrived in the environment with fellow youth players. He was offered his first professional contract by the club in 2011, which was duly accepted by the player. The 19-year old played up to 15 league matches for the club, and opened his scoring account with a lone goal. The second season with the side saw him play 30 matches for the club, and scored two goals. His latest season at the club gave him more recognition, with 10 goals scored in the span of 30 matches in the league.

His position at Schalke has been established as a first team player, and the midfielder signed a fresh contract with the club in May this year. But with Arsenal’s determination to bolster their finishing ability in the attacking line, Wenger will not shy away from spending a kitty that is arguably the biggest available to him during his time at the club.

According to the Metro, Draxler said, “Schalke could say ‘well £30million is not so bad’ and then I can’t do much about it. I would go.”

“If the club wants to sell me, I will not say ‘no I want to stay here’. We will see if anything extraordinary happens on Monday.”
