Arsenal Target Liverpool Wantaway Star

Arsenal are ready to grab the opportunity to sign Liverpool star defender Daniel Agger, as the Danish international looks to seal a move away from Anfield frustrated by the lack of first team football, according to Metro.

Liverpool came close to winning the Barclays Premier League last season, and it was primarily due to their consistency in all departments. Brendan Rodgers has brought in several players this season to ensure they have an equal chance of challenging for the crown next season despite the obvious loss of Suarez. However, the saga with Agger’s spot in the first team continued over the summer as the Dane was unhappy about being overlooked for the first team. Mamadou Sakho partnered Martin Skrtel for most of the season, leaving Agger only 20 appearances for the campaign.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are fresh off selling Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, and are looking to replace the Belgian to maintain depth in defence. Vermaelen could fill in both the centre back and left back role, and Agger has similar qualities, which make him a good replacement. However, with the Gunners having Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker as a defensive pair, convincing Agger to sit on the bench could prove difficult for Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners face a challenge from Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of left footed Agger, and it could be down to Wenger’s convincing skills to persuade the Dane to sign a contract at the Emirates Stadium.
