Arsenal Target Defensive Midfielder

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Sevilla defensive midfielder, Grzegorz Krychowiak, according to the Polish press.

Krychowiak is seen as Arsenal’s second choice midfield acquisition behind to Morgan Schneiderlin, with the Poland international regarded as a cheap back-up option for Wenger. However it is worth mentioning that the Pole is by no means a major step down. He has been one of Spain’s best midfielders in his debut season, and attracted attention from Real Madrid and Manchester United. Now it seems Arsenal are the club to activate his €30 million release clause.

Krychowiak joined Sevilla last summer for €5 million. He has instantly become a key player for the side and scored in the final as they won a second successive Europa League trophy. He also helped the Spanish side finish 5th in the league. The deep-lying midfielder would certainly be a good move by Wenger and would bring solidity to the midfield.

The 25-year-old also recently changed his agent, and now has the same agent as fellow countryman and Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Although this poses as just a coincidence.

Speaking to the press in his native country about the possibility of moving to the Premier League this summer, Krychowiak had this to say:

“I do not have specific offers. I am very happy at Sevilla. At the same time I’d say that in football it’s a hard thing to plan for the long term. There are offers that are simply hard to reject.”

“Of course I wouldn’t turn them down but I can hardly say I’m desperate for the move can I?!”

Surely a bid from Wenger would prove too much to resist for the Polish man.
