Arsenal Target £20m Attacking Midfielder

Welbeck and Giroud should brace themselves as 23 year old Roberto Firmino is rumored to be in talks with Arsenal. The youngster who is currently under contract with Hoffenheim, made quite an impression on Wenger on Sunday when he scored the winner against Chile. According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal’s boss is planning on offering the German side as much as £20m to allow the midfielder to leave earlier than allowed in his contract. Firmino’s current deal is to expire in 2017 but it is very unlikely to see him reach that deadline.

Arsenal will face competition if they are to start negotiation for the Brazilian who is also being targeted by Bayern who seem to plan on reinforcing that part of the  team. The former Champions League winners may have a slight advantage in getting the 23 year old to sign with them as he has grown quite fond of the Bundesliga. In 144 matches for Hoffenheim he has netted 46 goals and helped his colleagues with 33 assists which sounds great for a player who moved to Europe just 4 years back. Arsenal could use someone with his skills especially as Ozil, Wilshere and Ramsey have failed to provide that kind of support for their teammates.

Hopefully a bid for Firmino will still allow Wenger to invest in defensive players like Schneiderlin or Khedira who look like crucial transfers for the Gunners. It will be tough for Arsenal to manage their financial assets this summer with so many targets available and with so many necessary transfers waiting to happen.
