Arsenal Target 20 Year Old Defender Who Has Been Called A “Top, Top Player” By Wayne Rooney

Arsenal are interested in signing Derby left-back Lee Buchanan, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports that the 20-year-old is being considered as a summer transfer target with the Gunners looking to provide competition for Kieran Tierney.

Manager Mikel Arteta has had to rely on Granit Xhaka recently, with Tierney currently out injured, and it seems the London club’s scouting department have identified Buchanan as a possible option. The England Under 21 international is highly rated by his manager Wayne Rooney, who recently said:

“He’s a top, top player. I’d argue he’s one of the best young left-backs in the country. And he can go to another level as well….no….he’s a real top player.”

Buchanan is still relatively inexperienced, though, having made just 43 senior appearances, but he could offer good cover in an area that is in desperate need of strengthening.

Sead Kolasinac is expected to return from his loan spell at Schalke in the summer, but the Bosnian’s future at the club is in doubt, and his departure on a permanent basis would free up space in the squad for Buchanan.
