Arsenal Taking On Next Borussia Dortmund Target

Arsenal will be focusing their attention on Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan who looks like the perfect transfer to make given the circumstances at the Emirates. The 24 year old who is under contract until 2016 has just recovered from injury in November has signed a one year extension in April but seems to have one foot out the door. Unfortunately for the talented midfielder, his back problems have left a mark and it is hard to believe Dortmund will keep him or offer an extension longer than 12 months. He is currently a gamble if you consider he spent almost a year and a half out due to injury. At 24 years of age, that is not a positive thing to have on your resume.

The 400 days he had to recover in, have made this promising young player look like a risk. Handling injuries would not be a problem for Arsenal who know a lot about dealing with health problems. Even so, Wenger needs a strong and reliable midfielder who will not cost the club their entire transfer budget. Add to that the fact that Gundogan has been missing out on games just as much as Walcott did and you get a very complicated deal which will be even more complicated to handle. According to Metro though, Arsenal have started negotiations from £15.6million which is a lot if you take into consideration the risk factor and the uncertainty regarding the player’s future.
