Arsenal right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu is reportedly being targeted by Champions League runners-up Inter Milan for a potential transfer, according to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report states that Inter are lining up a bid for the player. It is currently unclear how much they are willing to pay – likewise, it is unknown as to how highly the Gunners value the Japanese international.

No official bid has been submitted as of yet. Due to this, we will have to see how this saga pans out – Tomiyasu initially signed for Arsenal back in 2021 from Bologna, when he joined the club for fee of £19.8 million.

Will Arsenal miss Takehiro Tomiyasu?

Last season, despite being Arsenal’s only natural right-back, Tomiyasu saw his position largely usurped by Ben White, who did a stellar job in that role (despite his preferred position being at centre-back).

Arsenal have been busy in the transfer window – aside from the acquisitions of Kai Havertz from Chelsea and Declan Rice from West Ham United, they have also purchased adaptable defender Jurrien Timber.

While Timber is more suited to playing as a centre-back on the right hand side of a back three, he can also play at right-back. As such, this means that Tomiyasu’s time in the first team could become even more limited if Mikel Arteta decides to field him there.

Who else has left the Gunners in the summer transfer window?

Arsenal may have been busy in terms of incomings, but they have also been working hard to move players on, as well. So far, Granit Xhaka, Pablo Mari and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have all departed the club, with Thomas Partey expected to follow them out of the exit door.

Such a turnover in playing staff can lead to problems, as the new arrivals all try to gel with the rest of the squad. It is always a risk, but Arteta has looked to improve upon those who have left.

Arsenal have certainly spent more than they have made over the course of the transfer window – as such, the new arrivals could face pressure to hit the ground running.
