Arsenal have offered €25m (£20.9m) for Palmeiras holding midfielder Danilo, according to R7 Esportes.

The Brazilian news outlet claims that the Gunners have offered €20m (£16.7m) upfront for the 20-year-old, with another €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.

Danilo has recently helped Palmeiras win their second consecutive Copa Libertadores, starting 11 of the club’s 13 matches in the competition before beating Flamengo in the final back in November.

R7 Esportes believe that Arsenal are keen to get a “replacement for Thomas Partey” during the January transfer window while the Ghanaian is away at the African Cup of Nations.

However, Palmeiras are said to have rejected the Gunners’ first offer. Danilo has an £86m release clause and the Brazilian club will only let the midfielder leave if he requests a transfer.

Whether Mikel Arteta’s side will put in another bid, we shall have to wait and see. They may face competition from West Ham for the Brazilian’s signature but it is believed the Hammers have yet to firm up their interest with a formal proposal of their own.
