Arsenal Swoop For Gremio Centre-Back Bressan

The Brazilian centre-back Bressan is one of the finest young players in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and his performances have impressed scouts at Arsenal som much so that they are encouraging Wenger to make a move for him.

The Gunners have held talks with the Brazilian club regarding the availability of Bressan. The discussions have reached an advanced stage with Arsenal planning to send chief negotiator Dick Law to Brazil for further negotiations, according to Metro.

The 21-year-old began his career with Brazilian club Juventude before being signed by Gremio last year. He is a 6’1’’ strong centre-back who likes playing out from the back, and so he will be suited to Arsenal’s philosophy.

Wenger wants more options in central defence with only Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen and Lorient Koscielny competing for places. If a deal can be agreed between the two clubs quickly, Bressan will be Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
