Arsenal Still Trying To Negotiate With Schalke Over Draxler Transfer?

According to the Guardian, Dick Law, Arsenal’s chief transfer negotiator, is in Germany to discuss a potential move with Schalke for the transfer of their impressive attacking midfielder Draxler before the close of the transfer window today.

The Gunners are looking to add reinforcements to their beleaguered squad with Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere and Flamini unavailable due to a combination of injuries and suspensions. With key matches coming up, Wenger knows the arrival of a quality player like Draxler could be a major boost to their chances of ending their trophy drought this season.

The 20-year-old has a release clause of £37 million but Arsenal are not expected to match that valuation. While it will be easier to acquire his services in the summer, the Gunners believe there is some room for negotiations and that a compromise could be reached.

The Germany international has scored 5 goals in all competitions this season and is expected to return to action next month after he sustained an ankle injury which has kept him out since the middle of December.

All the signs sadly point towards this deal not being concluded until the summer so Draxler does not look like he will be Arsenal’s winter Ozil-like signing.
