Arsenal Star Makes Frank Admission About His Future After Revealing Plan To Return To Former Club

Arsenal centre-back David Luiz says he is looking to return to former team Benfica before he retires from professional football.

The Brazilian spent four years with the Portuguese side before moving to Chelsea in 2011, and the 33-year-old claims the club holds a special place in his heart:

“I never lost my connection with Benfica, I have that in my heart, everybody knows I want to come back. The day I come back to the Estadio da Luz it is going to be very special, one of the greatest feelings of my life.”

Luiz only signed a two-year contract when he joined the Gunners last August so there is every possibility that he could look to run down his current deal and join Benfica next year.

It’s unlikely Mikel Arteta will look to persuade him to stay with the Arsenal manager seemingly keen on bringing in his own centre-back targets when the transfer window reopens.

Pablo Mari is expected to join the Gunners on a permanent basis in the summer, while a move for Reims centre-half Axel Disasi is also reportedly being considered.

With William Saliba returning from his loan spell at Saint-Etienne in a few months time, Luiz may soon have a lot of competition for his place in the starting eleven.
