Arsenal star excited by Emery arrival

Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has spoken out about his excitement to work alongside new Gunners’ boss Unai Emery.

The Nigeria international, who admits to being surprised by Arsene Wenger’s decision to leave Arsenal after more than 20 years in charge, says he is looking forward to linking up with new boss Emery after the World Cup.

Wenger revealed back in April that he would be walking away from the Emirates after 22-years in charge, and there were a number of candidates who were rumoured to be taking over from the Frenchman, but it wasn’t until last month that it was revealed Emery would be taking over.

Speaking in the official matchday programme ahead of Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly defeat to England, Nigeria winger Iwobi said he was excited about the prospect of working under the former Sevilla and PSG boss.

“I was surprised by his [Wenger’s] decision.

“[Wenger] has been there for me since I joined the club and has been very inspirational and influential on my career, but I am excited having our new manager next season.

“It has always been my childhood dream [to play for Arsenal]. I have been playing for Arsenal since I was six.

“The fact I am representing them now is like a dream come true. I am always proud to wear the Arsenal colours, and long may it continue.”

Iwobi is an important member of the Arsenal squad, having made 39 appearances for the club across all competitions last season, it wouldn’t be surprising if he has a large role to play in his new manager’s plans.
