Arsenal star admits “disappointment” after Wembley defeat

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has admitted the disappointment of Saturday’s result in the North London Derby.

The Gunners came out on the losing end 1-0 at Wembley thanks to a Harry Kane header – although they did have chances to level, and even perhaps win, the game.

Firstly, record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was ruled offside after putting the ball in the back of the net, and substitute Alexandre Lacazette floundered two clear chances late on.

And Cech believes should he side have taken those opportunities they would have not left Wembley empty handed.

“I think in this type of game you need to take your chances and I know that we had two at the end, but unfortunately we didn’t take them.” said the former Chelsea star.
“I said before the game that it was a game with a huge importance, not only because it was the derby and this is the most important game for our fans, but because of the position in the table.
“We were behind, we needed to close the gap – and we failed to do so.”
Wenger’s side were unable to complete the double over their London rivals after having beat Spurs 2-0 earlier in the season.
The defeat leaves Arsene Wenger’s men seven points behind Tottenham and sixth in the Premier League table, and Cech was unable to hide his frustration at slipping further behind their London rivals.
“If you look at the table, we needed to win this game to close the gap and we couldn’t do so. I don’t really think you need any comments when you lose this game. It’s very disappointing for everyone.”
