Arsenal snap up South African wonderkid after successful five week trial

Arsenal have snapped up nine-year-old South African wonderkid Jayden Adetiba.

Nigeria-born Jayden Adetiba signed a deal with the Gunners after he impressed academy coaches during a five-week trial with the club.

Adetiba, who previously lived in the UK, has spent most of his life in South Africa where he played for SuperSport United Soccer School.

“I thank God and my parents for this. I am very happy,” said the nine-year-old following his ‘dream’ move.

“I train three times a week at the academy and we have a match at the weekend.

“The amazing thing is, I have always been an Arsenal fan and I will work hard every day to make the first team.”

Adetiba says his favourite players are Cristiano Ronaldo and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi – the latter of whom the youngster hopes he can emulate at The Emirates one day.

“Ronaldo because of his hard work, and Iwobi because he was at the Arsenal academy at the age of seven and now plays for the first team,” he said.

Jayden’s father, John, also shared his delight at his son’s deal with the Gunners, tweeting: “”The little man joins the big club!!”
