Arsenal Signing Midfield Cover?

Wenger seems to be the first to make a move on the transfer market by signing 23-year-old Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel. The Swiss side had to say goodbye to the defensive midfielder a couple of days back after he posted a heartfelt message on his twitter account in which he thanked the fans and the club. Even though he did not mention the club he will be playing for, Squawka pointed out he is in North London getting ready for a medical. Several sources say he will be Wenger’s stand-in for Coquelin, Wilshere or Arteta all of which have been struggling with injury this season. Elneny looks like a good signing as he is also eligible for the Champions League not only for the Premier League games.

The Egyptian international who despite being still young, has made 40 appearances for his home country, is rumored to cost Arsenal around £7.4million. He will play a box-to-box role most probably and will bring a more aggressive playing style down the middle of the pitch. He has a fighting spirit, he is willing to prove himself and he will have the chance to showcase his abilities as most of Arsenal’s midfield section will be in recovery until March.

On the other side of the rumor mill there is news of Fabregas wanting to return to Emirates. Apparently the Arsenal’s former captain has requested to move away from Chelsea as soon as possible, meaning he is looking for a winter transfer. Given the way Fabregas handled transfers up until now it would not be impossible for him to actually try and return to Emirates. It`s not entirely up to him though is it? Wenger has already turned him down once according to one of the Spaniard’s interviews, given after signing with Chelsea. Also, despite how good Fabregas is, he would not fit in right now. Basically Wenger’s rejection had two reasons: the way Fabregas left Arsenal to join Barcelona and the fact that Ozil covers the same position as the Spaniard. It is very unlikely he will be offered a spot in the Gunners’ current team and it is very unlikely fans will welcome such a return.
