‘Arsenal Should’ve Signed Morata Over Lacazette’

Arsenal should have signed Alvaro Morata instead of Alexandre Lacazette. Those are the words of ESPN’s Stewart Robson who believes that the French signing is not the man to lead the Gunners’ line.

Lacazette joined Arsenal this summer for a club record transfer, believed to be around £53m. There has been plenty of hype around the transfer, as the 26-year-old is one of Europe’s best and has consistently scored goals in Ligue 1 for Lyon.

However, Robson is not convinced that the new No.9 is the right man for the job, and insists that there were other options available who would’ve been much better suited.

Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata was available for transfer this summer, but has joined Chelsea for around £70m. Borussia Dortmund’s Aubameyang has also been linked with a move away, and would have probably been valued at about the same price. But Stewart Robson says Arsenal should have signed one of the two earlier mentioned instead of Frenchman Lacazette, saying he is not sure he has the consistency or work rate for the Premier League.

“Lacazette, I’ve seen him on many occasions, I’m not convinced he’s got the consistency, or the work rate, or the hard graft to be a top-class player,” Robson said on ESPN FC.

“I went to watch him a couple of times for another manager and I came back with a report that he wasn’t quite good enough to play at the top level.”

“I was surprised they bought him rather than Aubameyang, or went for Morata, or somebody like that but they went for Lacazette.”

Arsenal were linked heavily with Morata last summer and back a couple of seasons ago so clearly he was on the Gunners’ radar and as we know Man United were quite interested in the player earlier in this summer window but it was Chelsea who were certainly very serious about the Spanish ace and him going to play with Conte again makes a lot of sense as the two have enjoyed success in the past together at Juventus.

So Lacazette hasn’t quite won over Stewart Robson. But I’m sure that won’t bother the striker who is a natural in front of goal. With the sort of service he can expect to get at Arsenal, it is certain that Lacazette will shine at the club and seems to be the logical choice for Arsene Wenger to have made.
