Arsenal should end pursuit for this target & use funds to keep Alexis

Arsenal have made big moves in the transfer window so far by bringing Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac to the Emirates Stadium but the Gunners seem to be finding it difficult to lure their next prime-target to the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger is a big fan of Monaco ace Thomas Lemar and has pushed throughout the transfer window to bring the 21-year-old in as his third summer signing, with the Gunners previously stated to be confident that a deal could be reached. However, the situation now seems to have changed.

Highly-respected BBC journalist David Ornstein has reported this morning that the Gunners are growing less confident of reaching a deal for Lemar, with the Ligue 1 champions determined not to lose anymore assets having already seen the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva leave the French principality side.

Arsenal will continue to try to complete a transfer but their prime target, Ornstein confirms, is keeping Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium- and missing out on Lemar wouldn’t be a huge issue if the Gunners retained the services of the Chilean star.

The two-time Copa America winner stated this week that any decision on his future lies on Arsenal, raising the prospect of the North London side keeping hold of his signature, but the fact that Alexis has entered the final 12 months of his contract is an issue.

Arsenal are still hopeful a deal can be reached though and the Gunners have the finances to meet Alexis’ demands, particularly if a move for Thomas Lemar doesn’t go ahead, and Wenger needs to be prepared to hand the South American a huge contract.

Losing Alexis, particularly to Manchester City, would severely affect the progress Arsenal have made in recent years and a sale would get the fans on the manager’s back once again- which is something the Gunners need to avoid in the new season.

With the money Arsenal would retain by not completing a move for Thomas Lemar, the Gunners could easily match Alexis’ demands and issue a real statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League and Europe- showing that the North London giants are certainly no longer a club that sells their prized assets.
