Arsenal Set To Sign New Right-Back

Arsenal have been linked with a host of right-backs to replace Bacary Sagna, who was the latest Arsenal player to jump ship to Manchester City. Serge Aurier was heavily fancied to join Arsenal after the World Cup but it seems his place is to be taken by Newcastle star Mathieu Debuchy, who has just finished his World Cup duty with France.

The 28-year-old joined Newcastle from Lille in January 2013 and has gone on to make 43 league appearances for the Magpies. He was a consistent performer for the club last season and he may be on the verge of joining Arsenal if reports emanating from England are to be believed.

Debuchy is expected to join Arsenal once the World Cup gets over in two weeks’ time. According to a report in the Daily Star, he has sought to downplay the rumours surrounding his future by stating last week: “I miss European football and the Champions League in particular. For the moment, I’m concentrating on the World Cup. We’ll see about the rest afterwards.”

Mathieu Debuchy is a decent defender and excels going forward meaning he should fit into Wenger’s squad nicely and will enjoy playing in the Arsenal set-up so it looks like a good signing should it be finalised as expected.
