Arsenal set to sign highly rated defender in January

Arsenal are said to be hopeful of signing PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa according to reputable journalist David Ornstein.

The Gunners are in negotiations with the French outlet for the defender, and The Athletic report that the left-back could be allowed to leave this month rather than exit for free in the summer.

With Kieran Tierney out until mid-March, and Sead Kolasinac also struggling with injuries since joining the club, it leaves a starting spot available for 27-year-old if he joined Arteta’s side.

Kurzawa is currently PSG’s second choice left-back, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it seems a move this month would make perfect sense.

Writing in The Athletic, Ornstein says Arsenal are very interested in the player, and are in advanced talks for his signature this month.

In his press conference yesterday when asked about transfers, manager Mikel Arteta hinted at the possibility of signing full-backs this winter.

“We are already playing with full-backs that are not full-backs.

“They are wingers or central midfielders and could we afford to lose full-backs? No, but we don’t have any full-backs.”

It seems Arsenal are set to dip into the transfer market this month, and Kurzawa could well be the first of many.
