It is a well-documented view that Arsenal need one more quality centre-back to mount a serious and sustained challenge for the Premier League title. Arsene Wenger has already stated his desire to bring in a defender if Vermaelen leaves, and since that has now happened, a move for a new centre-back is imminent.

The Gunners have been linked with a variety of defenders but have reportedly agreed a fee with Olympiakos to bring Manolas to the Emirates Stadium, according to Goal. The 23-year-old is reportedly undergoing a medical ahead of his proposed transfer to the English club.

Juventus were also interested in the Greece international but Wenger has moved ahead of the Italian club by agreeing a €10 million fee for Manolas. The Greek defender is still a far cry from the quality of Vermaelen, who departed for Barcelona earlier this month, but is highly thought of nonetheless.
