Arsenal Set To Part Ways With Two Defenders

Calum Chambers is Wenger’s latest summer acquisition. Transferring the 19 year old is one of the Frenchman’s best moves yet considering how promising this defender looked while playing for Southampton. According to Metro, signing Chambers who is very versatile, will provide Arsenal with enough options to cover the entire defensive line just in case one of the current key players will be incapable to perform. Many have said that Jenkinson is no longer needed at the Emirates after Southampton’s right-back was brought in for £16million. They might be wrong though as rumors have it that Wenger will be looking to transform Chambers into a central defender.

Such rumors became even more credible when the 19 year old showed up with the number 5 shirt during his first practice session with the Gunners. Even though Chambers was supposed to take the number 21 shirt, he surprised everyone by training with Vermaelen’s number on his back.

The Belgium international is very likely to hand his captaincy to either Mertesacker, Ramsey or Wilshere. Even though Arteta is currently vice-captain, Arsenal will not want to have another season in which the leader of the team is more a substitute than a first choice for the starting line-up. Seeing Chambers wearing Vermaelen’s shirt is definitely a sign that things will not be solved between the Belgian and the club. He will probably choose one of three offers which are currently coming from ManchesterUnited , Barcelona and apparently Liverpool.
