Arsenal Set To Lose Out On Real Madrid Ace With Player Poised To Say ‘Yes’ To Rival Premier League Club

Aston Villa are expected to beat the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle to the signature of Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio, according to Calciomercato.com reporter Daniele Longo.

The journalist claims a whole host of teams have been pursuing the Spanish international, who will be available on a free transfer this summer. However, Villa have made a salary offer that is so high that Asensio is inclined to say “yes” to the proposal.

Asensio has been a long-term target for Arsenal, although it should be pointed out that the player was unlikely to be a top priority, due to the position he plays in.

The 27-year-old is ostensibly a right winger and, if he had made the move to the Emirates, the Spaniard would have had to battle Bukayo Saka for a starting spot.

What are Arsenal’s priorities for the summer transfer window?

It is believed the Gunners’ focus will be on strengthening the club’s defence and midfield.

Manager Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen on recruiting a holding midfielder, with West Ham’s Declan Rice as the number one option, as well as two fullbacks and a centre-half.

While the London club have also been linked with a number of wingers, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Mohammed Kudus, it is not thought they will place any importance on reinforcing that area of the pitch.
