Arsenal are keen on signing Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Belgian international is believed to be an option as the Gunners seek a replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who will leave on a free to join Juventus at the end of the season.

It appears Arsenal are considering buying a Sampdoria player for the second summer in a row after purchasing Lucas Torreira for £22m last July.

Praet may actually be available for less than the Uruguayan as well, with reports suggesting that he could be sold for €20m (£17m), which would put him well within the Gunners’ transfer budget.

Whether the 24-year-old is up to the task of replacing Ramsey, though, it is debatable. The midfielder is hardly prolific in front of goal, having scored just twice for Sampdoria this season.

Praet’s assist record isn’t much better either, having created just two goals so far this campaign.
