Arsenal Set To Clamp Down On Youth Coach Over Betting Affairs

Arsenal’s academy coach has found himself under the spotlight this week after his tweets about Ozil suggested that he illegally betted on 14-1 odds for the German, who eventually linked up with the Gunners on transfer deadline day for a staggering £42.4 million.

The Football Association’s rules on betting states that, “You are not allowed to place a bet on a game or competition in which you have any influence, either direct or indirect. The above includes all bets related to the following: Any other events involving your club or other clubs playing in the same league competition (such as next manager markets).”

Arber, a former defender who still plays for Corby Town, took to social media to boast that he was ‘in the know’ about Arsenal’s transfer activity as he tweeted: ‘Lovely bit of 14-1 Mesut.’

The 35-year-old spent last season at Conference side Dartford and has also previously enjoyed spells with Barnet, Peterborough United, Dagenham and Redbridge amongst others.

According to Dailymail, Arsenal have taken strong disciplinary action against Arber, who is also expected to be probed by the FA for his possible breach of betting regulations. A club spokesman said, “All Arsenal employees and workers are well aware of their responsibilities in this respect.”

This follows a 21-month ban handed out by the FA to Accrington Stanley managing director Robert Heys for breaching their gambling rules. He admitted to placing bets on more than 200 matches involving his own club, thus breaching the FA’s rules on 735 occasions.

Spurs winger Andros Townsend and Crystal Palace striker Cameron Jerome have also been found guilty of breaking the FA’s betting rules. The duo were subsequently fined while Townsend was also given a ban.
