Arsenal Running Out Of Options?

Arsenal began the summer with ample of promise of making marquee signings. They have primarily been a selling club of late as they have seen key players walk out of the club in the last couple of seasons. A huge financial debt on the Emirates Stadium did not make it easier for them to afford big name signings too.

This summer has been a different case altogether, as the club disclosed a healthy transfer kitty of £70 million which was available for manager Arsene Wenger to spend. The capability to spend big this transfer window gave rise to a dearth of transfer rumors linking the Gunners with high profile names across Europe.

However, as the summer has progressed, Arsenal have one by one lost out on each of these players who have decided to head elsewhere. The likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Bernard have chosen to go to Napoli, Manchester City and Shakhtar respectively.

It all boiled down to strikers Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, who are understood to be Wenger’s top priorities now. Arsenal have been trying desperately to sign Suarez, however Liverpool have remained firm on their stance over the striker. The negotiations are still dragging on between the clubs.

It was reported that Arsenal have kept Rooney as a backup in case the Suarez deal does not work out. Rooney is being heavily courted by Chelsea too, and it looks like Arsenal are set to miss out on Rooney too as ESPNFC reports that he has himself has told his close friends of his personal dream to join Chelsea.

With Rooney looking likely to slip past them too, Arsenal are pinning all their hopes on securing Suarez now. They have put themselves into this precarious situation and are gambling on the Suarez deal to materialize.

Will this heavy risk pay off for them? Or are Arsenal fans headed for yet another summer of disappointment?
