Arsenal Forward Sets Return Date After Reason Behind Pre-Season Absence Is Explained

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson has been ruled out for two weeks with a minor toe injury, GoonerNews.com understands.

The 23-year-old, who recently signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners, didn’t travel with the squad for their pre-season tour in the United States.

Nelson sustained a minor toe injury during Arsenal’s Germany training camp and will now be on the sidelines for the next couple of weeks.

He required stitches on the injury which is why Arsenal’s medical team decided not to risk him for the games in the US.

However, there is optimism that the Hale End academy product will return for the upcoming Emirates Cup at the start of August with Arsenal set to face Monaco on August 2.

GoonerNews can also reveal the reason behind Cedric Soares’ omission from the travelling squad, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta making a technical decision not to include the Portuguese defender.

Nicolas Pepe and Albert Sambi Lokonga have also been left behind in London, while Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey are expected to join up with the squad from next week.

New signings Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber were all included, with the opening match against MLS All-Stars to be played on Wednesday.

Arteta’s side then play games against Manchester United in New Jersey and Barcelona in Los Angeles.
