Arsenal Redirect Their Attention Towards One Of Their Previous Targets

The Gunners have started preparing the transfer list for January 2014. After proving unable to handle three major competitions at once, and after losing to teams like Dortmund and Chelsea, Wenger looks determined to spend big money on some star players. Ozil was just the beginning according to Arsenal’s management who are now ready, more than ever to end the club’s 8 year trophy drought.

Wenger’s team missed out on several targets during the summer transfer period. The German international was quite the unexpected transfer. His arrival at Emirates might have been not only profitable from a game quality point of view but also when it comes to image. One of the main reasons players like Higuain avoided the North London side was because they could not find their way to the top. They always stop near the end. Because of that exact reason, Players like Fabregas, Song and Henry left Emirates.

Considering Arsenal’s current form and Premier League position and also the fact that Ozil moved from Real Madrid to London, things might pick up for the Gunners.

According to Metro, the next big player on their list seems to come from France. Lyon’s Clement Grenier, who has been on Wenger’s list since this summer may finally make a move. The French side have had a disastrous season finding themselves only 12th in the current Ligue 1 standings. They are not the team that once defeated Real Madrid on a regular basis. Because of their downfall, chances of a transfer as important as the one of Grenier could take place during the winter transfer period.

Lyon is also facing some financial issues which means they will not let their player leave for free. His contract expires in 2016. The 22 year old would be a cheap acquisition for the Gunners who are expected to pay around 7 million pounds for the French international. He has been with Lyon since 2008 but looks keen on moving after his club is no longer among Europe’s strongest teams. Hopefully Arsenal will be able to take advantage of this entire situation.
