Arsenal Ready To Spend Big For Higuain

Arsenal are reportedly ready to release some of the surplus cash from this summer’s transfer kitty, to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid, after information was received about Juventus preparing a competitive bid for the Argentine striker.

Arsene Wenger has been in the media due to many transfer related topics, both positive and negative. On a brighter note, it is reported that the Frenchman has been given the rare license to spend by the board, something Arsenal fans are not used to seeing over the past few years. Similarly, players like Laurent Koscielny, who form the crux of the side, are being targeted by the elite clubs in Europe, and lured by the temptation of trophies. After losing so many stars over the past few years, it is clear that Wenger can not only afford to lose any more players from his side, but also lose out on any reported transfer targets, as has been the case in recent times.

The club’s link with Higuain has been reported over the past few months, ever since the 25-year old was told by the club that he is free to leave, despite having three years remaining on his current contract. Higuain has been associated with Madrid for nearly 7 years, having played 187 matches and scoring 107 goals for The Whites in the process. However, over the seasons, he has not permanently been part of the starting eleven, which is one of the factors of him leaving this summer. His international career has also been stop start, with only 2 appearances for the South American side in 2013.

With Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski the only recognized center forwards at the club, it is clear that the club need to sign a marquee striker this summer to add presence to the attack line. Currently, the side are depending on Theo Walcott, who is slowly changing his style from a speedy winger, to a striker.

According to Metro, club president Florentino Perez is demanding a sizable figure from any interested parties for Higuain.

Perez said, “With £25.5m it’s better that they don’t come,”

“Let’s see if people ask us for £50m for everyone and we sell one of ours for half that.”

Arsenal fans will have to be patient, because it will take a while before negotiations result in a solution for both clubs. Also, Madrid are yet to finalize on their new manager, a dilemma which has so far not yielded a concrete solution.
