Arsenal Ready To Sacrifice Podolski

According to Metro, Arsenal are ready to part with Lukas Podolski to strike a cash-plus-player deal with German side Schalke for their talented attacker Julian Draxler, who has been on the Gunners radar over the past few seasons.

Arsenal have been the most consistent team in terms of picking up points, and that has rewarded them with top spot in the Barclays Premier League. Despite Mesut Ozil being their only major signing last summer, the side look much stronger, and the years of development put into players like Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey finally appear to be reaping benefits.

20-year old Draxler’s career began at Schalke in 2001 as a youth player. He was offered a professional contract in 2011, and he impressed the officials in his first season with 15 league appearances and one goal. His run continued as he played nearly the whole of the second and the third season, establishing his name in the club’s first team squad.

Podolski, on the other hand, has not played a major role in the rise of the Gunners to the top of the league. Having made only three appearances this season, Arsene Wenger is ready to part with the German international for his younger compatriot.

The deal would give Arsenal an exciting option up front, and a player who can compliment Theo Walcott’s pace in the future. Olivier Giroud will continue to be the center forward, while two quick wingers can compliment the skillful midfield at Wenger’s disposal.
