Arsenal Predicted Starting XI For West Brom Clash

With Manchester City drawing against Newcastle United on Tuesday, Arsenal have a good chance of finally regaining their third position spot on City by ensuring they beat West Brom later today.

With Manchester United and West Ham United also looking like they can sneak into the top four, the Gunners have little margin for error. Anything less than a win against WBA will not be acceptable.

The good thing is although Arsenal have been very poor lately, WBA has not been any better and having reached the 40 point plateau which should see them safe they won’t have much to play for.

This match will not only present Arsenal a chance to regain their third position but as well as give the Gunners a chance to avenge the 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of West Brom in November.

Wilshere is back to full training but he is unlikely to feature in this match but the trio of Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Per Mertesacker are back in contention and could be in line for a start against the Baggies.

Below is our likely starting line-up for this clash

Goalkeeper

Although Cech could have done better to stop Bolasie’s shot in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace over the weekend, he is surely more likely to start against WBA than David Ospina. And rightly so as he is the number one.

Defence

Hector Bellerin is certainly going to maintain his position in the right back position as he rarely makes a mistake and offers much going forward. The Spaniard completed 93% of his passes and made 46 touches in the final third of the pitch. He has been influential to Arsenal’s attack from the right alongside Sanchez in recent time.

Gabriel Paulista hasn’t really impressed in centre back lately, Wenger could feel it is time to bring back Per Mertesacker and rest the Brazilian. Mertesacker will be more suited to deal with WBA’s attackers.

Laurent Koscielny has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent players this season so far and he is certainly going to start.

Left-back: Nacho Monreal

Kieran Gibbs hasn’t done enough to warrant Nacho Monreal been ousted from the first team hence the Spaniard will start once again. Against Palace, he won 40% of his tackles which was poor for his standard.

Midfield

With Mathieu Flamini not any better and Mikel Arteta’s leg failing him, Francis Coquelin is certainly going to start against West Brom. He won 60% of his tackles last weekend and had 85% pass completion rate.

With Santi Cazorla still out and as well as Jack Wilshere, Mohamed Elneny is likely to continue his run with the Arsenal first team. His partnership with Coquelin has been brilliant.

Mesut Ozil could do with a rest unfortunately who will replace him? The German is a sure starter for Arsenal against West Brom barring any last minute injury. He hasn’t been at his best recently, but even at his worst, he has been the best chance creator at Arsenal.

Attack

Wenger is unlikely to drop Alex Iwobi from the team any time soon. Joel Campbell who would have replaced him on the left wing can’t get a look in with the Nigerian doing so well lately, it will be difficult to drop him.

On the right wing, Alexis Sanchez will be picked ahead of Walcott. The Chilean seems to have finally rediscovered his form and will certainly be banked on to deliver the goals that will propel Arsenal back to the third position.

Olivier Giroud has done nothing to deserve a start, against Palace in the few minutes he played, he looked dull and uninterested. Welbeck is certainly going to keep his place ahead of the Frenchman.
