Arsenal have offered goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez a contract extension, according to the Daily Telegraph. The Gunners have reportedly guaranteed the Argentinian international game time next season and are very keen to keep hold of him. This contradicts claims earlier this week which suggested that the 27-year-old was poised to leave the Emirates following the news that head coach Mikel Arteta still sees Bernd Leno as his number one.
It was thought that Martinez would be sold if they received an offer in the region of £20m this summer, but it now appears that he is closing in on extending his stay at the London club. The Argentine was once again in excellent form as the Gunners triumphed in the Community Shield against Liverpool yesterday.
The keeper is doing all he can to convince Arteta that he deserves to be first choice for the upcoming campaign. It will be interesting to see who is selected in goal for the first game of the season against Fulham next month.
