Arsenal ‘On The Brink’ Of Sealing No.1 Target With £5m A Year Contract Set To Be Offered

Arsenal are “on the brink” of appointing Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta as their next manager, according to the Sun. The Spaniard will meet Josh Kroenke today for a final interview before he will be announced as Unai Emery’s permanent successor later this week.

The newspaper reports that the 37-year-old will be offered a £5m a year deal, and it is believed they will have to pay significant compensation to City in order to get their man.

CEO Vinai Venkatesham and chief negotiator Huss Fahmy have already held formal talks with Arteta and despite other names being in the frame for the job, it appears the Gunners board have settled on who will be their next head coach.

The news has not gone down well with some fans and pundits, with Paul Merson, in particular, not happy that the club have gone for a coach with no experience of being the number one. In contrast, Alan Smith has backed the appointment of Arteta.
