Arsenal On Alert As Carrasco Admits He’d “Love” To Make Return To Europe

Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco has said he is targeting a return to Europe in order to regain his place in the Belgian national team.

The 25-year-old was linked with Arsenal and Manchester United in the January transfer window, and he confirmed that there were teams keen to take him on:

“I would love to return to Europe. A lot of clubs were interested in me. We tried to find a solution in January that would enable me to leave Dalian Yifang. But I can understand the club’s thinking. They wanted me to stay.”

“I still feel OK in China. But I have lost my starting place in the Belgian national side.”

It is believed that Carrasco was being considered by Arsenal as an alternative to Ivan Perisic, but Dalian were believed to be looking to sell for £35m, rather than offloading him on a loan deal.

The Gunners continued to be linked with wingers, with the likes of Ismaila Sarr, Nicolas Pepe, Marcus Thuram, Cristian Pavon, Cengiz Under and Gelson Martins all having been mentioned as targets in recent months.

Carrasco is expected to start his second season with Dalian Yifang when the Chinese Super League kicks off later this month. In his first campaign, he managed 10 goals and nine assists in 28 appearances.
