Representatives from Arsenal will land in Portugal on “Monday or Tuesday” next week in order to “close the deal” for Sporting Lisbon winger Joelson Fernandes, according to ABOLA.
The Portuguese tabloid claims the Gunners will sit down with the teenager’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, and officials from Sporting to discuss a possible transfer.
It is believed Arsenal are willing to trigger Joelson’s €45m (£41m) release clause, although it remains to be seen whether such a sizeable offer is officially tabled.
Joorabchian’s close ties with Head of Football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu means the London club are the favourites to land the 17-year-old.
Joelson’s departure from Sporting is looking increasingly likely after talks over a new contract broke down due to a disagreement over the player’s new buyout fee.
However, it must be pointed out all the speculation regarding the starlet’s move to the Emirates is coming from the Portuguese press, which may suggest that the Gunners could be being used in talks to get the player a better deal with Sporting.
