Arsenal proposed a contract offer worth £13m a year to Chelsea winger Willian before the global health crisis hit, according to the Mirror‘s John Cross.
Due to the change in the financial climate, though, it is unlikely that the £250,000 a week offer has remained on the table, considering the Gunners have since asked their players to take a 10% wage cut.
Willian has signed an extension with Chelsea until the end of the season, but the 31-year-old is very likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer with the Blues unwilling to offer him a three-year deal.
Reliable journalist David Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal are still actively pursuing the Brazilian international, although it’s very unlikely that they’ll propose the length of contract he is looking for.
Tottenham are also said to be keen on Willian, although his agent Kia Joorabchian’s close connections with the Gunners hierarchy mean a move to the Emirates is still the likeliest possibility.
