Arsenal Now In Pole Position To Snap Up 21 Cap Brazilian International Midfielder

Juventus midfielder Arthur would prefer a move to Arsenal ahead of Sevilla, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims that both teams are interested in the Brazilian, who has been capped 21 times by his country, but Juve have only received enquiries for the player so far.

Arthur is said to be on a shortlist of midfield options that the Gunners are considering as January transfer targets, but it isn’t believed that manager Mikel Arteta has settled on a number one priority.

With Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny away at the African Cup of Nations, Ainsley Maitland-Niles having been loaned out to Roma and Granit Xhaka struggling with illness, Arteta only has one fit senior central midfielder in Albert Sambi Lokonga currently available.

It means that, as things stand, youngster Charlie Patino may well stay in the team when Arsenal face Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie on Thursday.
