Arsenal Not Giving Up On William Carvalho

Arsenal are not giving up their chase of Porto defensive midfielder William Carvalho, and could rekindle interest in the winter transfer window, after the player has declined a new contract at the Portuguese outfit, according to Metro.

Carvalho has reportedly declined Porto’s offer for a new contract, which could give Arsenal the chance to reopen talks with the player over a move in the winter. Porto are worried about losing their star player to a cut price offer. The low fee also presents interested suitors the ability to offer a bumper wage package to the player which will further entice him to move away from Porto. Arsenal have again been criticised for not strengthening their squad further, and could therefore dip into the market in January.

The 22-year old began his career with Sporting as a youth player and signed further for the senior squad in 2011. His talent had been spotted by Europe’s best clubs, and now the Portuguese club have a host of teams wanting Carvalho in their lineup. Carvalho was also part of the 23-man Portugal squad that traveled to Brazil for the World Cup this year. He took part in all matches, before his country were knocked out early on.
