‘On Their List’ Arsenal Interested In Transfer For World-Class Serie A Midfielder

Arsenal are thought to be interested in a transfer for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to a report from journalist Paul Brown [via GIVEMESPORT].

However, they are not planning to move for the Italian any time soon – while Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the player, he is happy with his squad and will not pursue him unless there are any unexpected outgoings in the middle of the park.

Arsenal are not planning to make any more additions to their squad as of right now. However, should plans change, Barella would likely be one of the names at the top of their shopping list.

What did Paul Brown have to say regarding the situation?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: “Arteta told us on Friday that he wasn’t expecting any more business to be done, unless something unforeseen happens or a player leaves the club.

“So I think another midfield signing entirely depends on whether a midfielder is sold really, or if an offer comes in and Arsenal decide that it’s right for them to take it.

“I don’t think that they’re close to signing Barella, I don’t think they’re pushing very hard really for that one. But he is someone I think they quite like and someone who’s on their list. But like I say, I think any more incomings rely on outgoings now at Arsenal.”

Where would Nicolo Barella fit into the Arsenal team?

If Barella was brought to Arsenal, he would fit neatly into either of their two central midfield roles. Not only is he a very hard worker on the pitch, he also possesses sublime technical ability.

A box-to-box midfielder by trade, Barella can also do an admirable job in more advanced positions, given his ability to carry the ball through the centre.

As such, Barella is almost a complete midfielder. He combines industry with creativity very well – he wouldn’t just be a great fit for Arsenal, he would be a brilliant fit for any team in the Premier League.

He was a key player for Inter last season, as the Italians exceeded expectations by reaching the Champions League final – only to be felled by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
