Paul Scholes Predicts Whether Viktor Gyokeres Will Become The Prolific Goalscorer That Arsenal Need

Arsenal striker Vikot Gyokeres has had a pretty slow start to his career at the Emirates.

The Swedish international has scored 6 times in 19 appearances, with his last goal coming against Burnley at the beginning of November.

Gyokeres did pick up a hamstring injury during that game and he has found things difficult on his return to fitness.

He was criticised for his performance during the 2-1 win over Wolves at the weekend. It was the perfect opportunity for him to get on the scoresheet in a match against a much weaker opponent, but he struggled to make an impact.

Asked for his thoughts on Gyokeres, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes said he doesn’t think he will be prolific for the Gunners, although his teammates will appreciate his work rate:

“Do you know what I think about Gyokeres? I don’t think he’s ever going to be an unbelievable goalscorer but I think the rest of the team will like playing with him. He’s a focal point and works his b****** off.”

Gyokeres has to prove his doubters wrong at Arsenal

There is no doubt that the 27-year-old picked up an injury at the worst possible time. His display against Burnley was arguably his best since his £63.5m move from Sporting Lisbon but he hasn’t been able to kick on from there.

While it is understandable that Gyokeres would need a bit of time to get back to 100% after nearly a month on the sidelines, it is not a surprise that some are now questioning his form, especially after flattering to deceive against Wolves.

The Gunners have a massive game versus Everton this weekend, and if he can make the difference in a big away fixture, it would silence his critics. Scholes might then change his verdict on the forward.
