Thomas Partey is “highly unlikely” to sign a new contract at Arsenal according to a reliable Journalist.
The Ghana international scored during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Brentford over the weekend, which all but saw any hopes of a late challenge for the Premier League title dwindle.
Arsenal’s hopes of silverware this season now all rely on the Champions League, in which they are 3-0 up against Real Madrid heading into the second leg.
One player that has gone under the radar this season in terms of his importance in Mikel Arteta’s side is midfielder Thomas Partey, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
It has not been confirmed whether he will stay at the club beyond this season by signing a new contract, however, fresh reports say that it is highly unlikely.
According to TheBootRoom journalist Graeme Bailey, Partey is “highly unlikely” to remain at Arsenal despite the fact that the club are big fans of him and would ideally like to keep him around.
The report says that the size of any new deal is what will dampen any hopes of Partey staying at the Emirates. Bailey wrote: “Arsenal have a lot of plans in the transfer market this summer and offering a bumper deal to Partey, who would then be considered a squad player, is highly unlikely at this stage.”
Partey has made 45 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
Which other Arsenal players are set to leave?
Partey isn’t the only Gunner whose contract is set to expire this summer as there are two more permanent Arsenal players who are also likely to move on.
Jorginho’s deal at the club expires in summer with reports suggesting that he has already all but agreed to join Brazilian side Flamengo and move back to the country where he was born.
Defender Kieran Tierney is also due to leave with it looking likely for him to move back to Celtic where he found a lot of success before he joined Arsenal in 2019. Raheem Sterling and Neto will also depart in the summer when their loan deals at the club come to an end.
