Petr Cech Predicts Whether Arsenal Or Chelsea Will Win a Premier League Title First

Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea keeper Petr Cech claims that the Gunners are more likely to win the title out of his two former teams in the near future.

When asked which of the two clubs could finish top of the table first, Cech said that Mikel Arteta’s side may even have it in them to lift the Premier League trophy this season:

“At this moment I think Arsenal… This season? I think this season it will be very close but I actually think Arsenal might do it.”

There is growing confidence about Arsenal’s title challenge following their 6-0 demolition of West Ham at the weekend. The victory not only brought them level on points with Manchester City in second place, but they now have the same goal difference as the reigning champions.

The Gunners do remain two points behind leaders Liverpool but their form since the winter break has demonstrated that they can go on a run which could lead to them winning their first title in 21 years.

Chelsea are so far behind Arsenal

It wasn’t exactly a hard decision for Cech in terms of who to pick between Chelsea and Arsenal. The Blues may have come from behind to win against Crystal Palace on Monday evening but they are still 18 points adrift of Arteta’s men after 24 games.

After spending over £1 billion on new signings over the past 18 months, you would expect them to be more competitive but it seems they are further than ever from competing with the likes of Arsenal for top spot.

The bookmakers still make City the favourites

Considering the Cityzens have won 5 of the last 6 Premier League titles, it is not entirely surprising that the bookies have them as odds-on to finish first.

Liverpool are currently second favourites but, after recent results, Arsenal’s odds are shortening, with plenty of bookmakers now offering 5/1.
