Arsenal are optimistic that both Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri will sign contract extensions with the club soon, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing in his column for GiveMeSport, Romano claims that discussions with the two players have begun and that negotiations are progressing smoothly:
“The conversation is already advancing well with both Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly, as they’re very happy at Arsenal and they’ve been able to feel the confidence even before the injury crisis in the recent weeks with the pathway clear for the long term.”
“Sources expect key details of the new contracts to be discussed in the next weeks and then to get the agreements done.”
The Arsenal pair have become key members of the first-team squad
Heading into this season, Lewis-Skelly hadn’t even made his first-team debut. He got his first taste at senior level when he came on in the last few minutes of the 2-2 draw against Manchester City back in September.
Since then, the left-back’s rise to prominence has been rapid, becoming a regular starter and making 21 appearances in all competitions.
Nwaneri‘s progress hasn’t been quite as fast, having made his debut back in 2022, but he has already become a vital member of the Gunners’ attack, having scored 7 times in all competitions this season.
Arteta has been full of praise for Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri
Speaking after both players were named in the starting lineup for the 2-0 win over Leicester at the weekend, manager Mikel Arteta said there is no need to protect either teenager from playing too many minutes when they have shown that they are more than capable of performing to such a high level:
“They are ready, so why should we stop them? Because they are 17?
Fans will be hoping that the Gunners can agree new deals with both Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri as soon as possible considering their importance to the club’s future.
